Santo Domingo.– Thanks to the intermediation of the Minister of Tourism, David Collado, the Dominican Confederation of Tourist Taxi Drivers (CODOTATUR) and associations affiliated with this entity reached an agreement that allows tourist taxi operators of these associations in the area of Bávaro Punta Cana, can register on the platform as driving partners in the new option within the app called Uber Select.

The agreement is a response to the commitment agreed with the government in November of last year on the matter.

These taxi operators allied to CODOTATUR in Punta Cana can now be activated as driving partners in the Uber app as long as their vehicles have valid documents and meet the requirements of the Uber app to be able to register on the platform.

Regarding the Agreement, the Minister of Tourism, David Collado, said he felt more than satisfied, since it is the result of long months of work and dialogue.

“Today, with this agreement, we set a beautiful example and make it clear that agreement, dialogue and strategic alliance are the key to unity to guarantee the safest and most efficient taxi transportation service to our tourists in the Eastern region. and throughout the country,” said Minister Collado.

Uber Select will be the only option available in the Uber app with which driver partners can pick up users at hotels in the Bávaro Punta Cana area. The UberX option will continue to be available as before.

Silvia Alvarado, Uber’s public affairs manager for the Caribbean, Central America and Andean region, said that “this agreement confirms that together we can achieve great progress towards mobility innovation in the Dominican Republic.”

Alvarado expressed that this new option demonstrates the coexistence with tourist taxis, emphasizing the commitment that Uber has with its community and the country.

He reiterated his commitment to be an administration that always seeks solutions from the understanding “this is an administration that works with the heart and we listen to the feelings of the people and that is why with this solution we can ensure that all users can have safe and efficient services for in this way continue on the path of success in the total recovery of tourism”.

The executive director of INTRANT, Rafael Arias, highlighted how positive this agreement is for the parties involved, tourism and the country. “With this agreement, in addition to achieving peace and harmony in the tourist transport sector in the Eastern region, a great niche of work and opportunities is also opened for the sectors involved.”

Santiago Zamora, president of the Dominican Confederation of Tourist Taxi Drivers (CODOTATUR) added, “It fills us with satisfaction that after several months of meetings, we have been able to formalize this alliance that allows us to have access to the platform and its cutting-edge technology to increase our opportunity to generate higher profits.

We feel happy and at ease with this alliance for the development of transportation in the Dominican Republic, which together we will be able to promote more.”

Tourist taxi operators who are activated as driving partners will be able to count on more than 27 security tools that the app has available.

Among these tools are: trip verification by PIN, ride sharing, audio recording, button to call 911, among others. In addition, each trip made through the Uber app has the protection of the insurer Mapfre BHD Seguros.

This protection is activated automatically when the user gets into the vehicle on a trip requested through the application and ends when he gets out of it.
