In June, a passenger flow was recorded that is 80% close to that of before the pandemic.

The arrival of non-resident foreign tourists to the Dominican Republic reached 1.9 million in the first six months of 2021, for an increase of 503,553 additional passengers compared to the same period of the previous year.

During the month of June, Dominican airports registered the entry of 462,536 passengers, approximating the levels reached in 2019 by 80%, the year prior to the economic crisis derived from the covid-19 pandemic, a rate that would be reinforcing after the resumption of commercial flights from Canada and Russia.

The Governor of the Central Bank, Héctor Valdez Albizu, reported that, if tourism continues the positive trend presented so far, the year 2021 may conclude with a reception of 4 million tourists.

“I am more optimistic than the experts in the field of tourism evaluation: I think we can surpass them,” he said.

During the press conference held monthly to analyze the behavior of economic activity (IMAE), the Central Bank reported that the aggregate demand of the hotels, bars and restaurants segment had a year-on-year increase of 133.5% during the April-June quarter with respect to the preceding period.
